Timorasso Derthona represents one of the cornerstones of the winemaking style marked by Walter Massa, to whom we owe the revival of this variety historically acclimatized from Tortona hills nearly to Turin hills since the twelfth century, when it was called "Grignolato". The work started on Timorasso by Walter Massa in this land of crossroads among Piedmont, Lombardy, Liguria and Emilia started in 1987, after a long activity dedicated to the enhancement of Barbera. After some study tours made at some of the best producers of white wines in Friuli, Walter Massa went back in Piedmont, in its Monleale, with the aim of applying the method of refining on the lees to Timorasso and trying to convince the public to accept a Piedmontese white wine for aging. After years of dedication and tenacity, the work seems to have repaid Walter Massa: not only his wines have achieved significant levels of expression capturing the attention of leading guidebooks in this sector, but also a large number of producers in the area have followed his example, giving new life to this work of rediscovery of Timorasso. The Derthona is a highly representative sample of the most significant features of Timorasso: power, structure, complexity in the mineral part, and other aromatic characteristics that portend very broad margins of evolution over time.
