Ribolla Nera Vigna Petrussa 2013

The Ribolla Nera Vigna Petrussa is a wine that completely sums up the philosophy of production of Helda. We are at Albana, location of Prepotto, where Hilde Petrussa Mecchia since 1995 grows 8 hectares, of which approximately 6.5 vineyards. Hilde has provided for the resettlement of indigenous grapes and vines favoring the manual harvest of the grapes at the time of full and balanced maturity. This vine, of medieval origin, has a bunch of medium size and a bloom that covers part of the midnight blue of the grape skins; traditionally this grape was wilted with the intent to obtain structured wines, but today only a small percentage is dehydrated, this change leads to front a medium-bodied red wine, pleasantly tannic, with hints of spices more evident than with the previous method, there were still more veiled seen the greater thickness of the wine. Generally called Ribolla Nero, this grape is called Schioppettino in Prepotto and Pocalza in the areas of the Italian-Slovenian border. The reason for the difference in name between the Ribolla Nero and Schioppettino, according to most, is given by the fermentation of this wine in the past became slightly fizzy, giving the impression that the carbon dioxide "scoppiettasse", hence the onomatopoeia Schioppettino.
