Definitely few people would have bet on the outcome of a wine from 100% grapes Mondeuse (a variety originated in the Haute Savoie and rare in other parts of the world) produced on a hot lavic land at the feet of Etna. Yet the choice made by the Cambria family in early 90s with the first rows seems to have been rewarded by a great expressiveness shown by french grape over the years. Formerly confused with the italian variety Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, Mondeuse has perfectly acclimatized to the altitudes of Castiglione di Sicilia, very similar to those found in the original areas of cultivation in Haute-Savoie, exploiting the mineral richness of volcanic soil to deliver grapes featuring a great flavor profile and rich in polyphenols, which is crucial to sustain a good wine aging.
